| Who We Are Saco Spirit’s mission is to make Saco a better place to live and work by enhancing the vitality of our downtown. Our vision is a high quality of life for our citizens. Central to this vision is a sustainable economy that offers an opportunity for everyone to have rewarding employment and for business to prosper now and in the future. The people of Saco bring the vision into reality by working together and building on our tradition of hard work, dedication and ingenuity. Since our incorporation we have acquired help from hundreds of volunteers rolling into thousands of hours. Each special event, project and program has come to fruition due to the loyalty of these volunteers and supporters of Saco Spirit. Saco Main Street was chosen as one of the four original communities in Maine to become a Main Street Maine Community by the Maine Downtown Center. The organization was formed in 2001 under the guidelines of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Maine Street Maine Program. This program has been incredibly successful making it one of the most powerful economic development tools in the nation. To date more than 1,700 communities participate in this program for the development of their Downtown.
